Richard Goodall’s vocals shine as he sings Journey’s classic at the men’s basketball game, winning over the crowd

Richard Goodall, Indiana’s beloved “singing janitor,” captivated fans once again on Thursday with a stunning performance at Indiana State’s men’s basketball game against Eureka College. Taking to the stage at halftime, Goodall delivered an electrifying rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’”—the same song that helped propel him to fame as the winner of America’s Got Talent in 2024.

Known for his powerful vocals and down-to-earth charm, Goodall brought the crowd to their feet, reminding everyone why he earned the $1 million grand prize on AGT. His natural ability to connect with the audience, combined with his humble spirit, makes him not just a remarkable singer, but a beloved figure in his hometown of Terre Haute.

Reflecting on his incredible journey, Goodall shared his gratitude and humility in an interview, stating, “I’m just like anybody else. I probably do one of the most humble jobs there is.” Despite his newfound fame, Goodall remains grounded, continuing his work as a custodian at West Vigo Middle School.

Looking back on the year that changed his life, Goodall said, “Without question, the biggest year of my life. Everything in life happens for a reason. There’s no rhyme or reason why this is my year. It was just my time, I guess.” What started as a free trip to AGT turned into a life-altering opportunity. “I didn’t have any expectations of this being my time,” Goodall confessed. “It’s very surreal, it still is.”

As he prepares for 2025, Goodall is excited about the future. “Life is unscripted right now,” he said. “Ang and I are flying by the seat of our pants, but in a controlled way.” He hinted at some big plans ahead, with concerts scheduled in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. “Are there some pretty big things coming up? Absolutely, yes,” Goodall confirmed.
