Firefighters at a collision site use nail polish to soothe down a distressed small girl.

It is a firefighter’s responsibility to make their town feel safe—not just by saving lives or putting out fires, but also by assuring residents that everything will be fine after an incident.

Firefighters frequently encounter people who have been through a horrific experience—an accident, the loss of a home—and in those situations, solid people skills and a strong, calming presence are vital.

This was the situation with two firefighters… who demonstrated that getting a manicure might be the most manly thing a man can do.

Chief Allen Hadley and Captain Kevin Lloyd of Utah’s North Davis Fire Department reacted to a car collision. They came upon a screaming small girl, uninjured by the collision but terrified by the event.

The firefighters tried to cheer her up and ease her worries. They saw she was holding two bottles of nail paint and began conversing with her about it.

They then went one step further and volunteered to let her paint their nails!

It was a wonderful and kind gift. These firefighters probably don’t get their nails done very frequently, but it gave the girl something to do to distract her from the disaster.

And it worked like a charm.

“Within minutes, the child was calmly painting their nails and had forgotten about the accident she had just experienced,” stated the North Davis Fire District on Facebook.

“Great job Chief Hadley and Captain Lloyd for providing awesome customer service to one of our young citizens.”

Commenters applauded the firemen’ considerate actions: “Tough enough to wear purple and not care,” one person remarked. “Amazing job!”

It’s incredible how a little, thoughtful encounter like that can truly make a difference and make someone happy.

Let us congratulate these firemen on going above and beyond! Spread the word about this wonderful tale!
