Brenda Lee’s ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,’ released 65 years ago, has finally reached No. 1.

For years, Mariah Carey’s 1994 smash “All I Want for Christmas is You” has ruled the holiday charts, but this year there’s a newish song at the top: Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

Lee, 78, once known as Little Miss Dynamite, set multiple records Monday when her Christmas song debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 list.

When she recorded the 1958 holiday classic, she was just 13 years old.

Prior to the announcement, the 78-year-old was commemorating the 65th anniversary of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” She released the song’s debut music video, featuring Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood, last month. She will also be seen on NBC’s Christmas at the Opry.

Lee’s Christmas favorite is only the third holiday song to reach number one on the Billboard charts.

When it reached number one, the song broke the record for the longest time between a single’s release and reaching the top spot. It also broke the record for the longest time between number one hits by an artist.

Lee also broke the record for the oldest individual to reach the top of the Billboard chart at the age of almost 80.

“I cannot believe that ‘Rockin” has hit No. 1 65 years after it was released, this is just so special!” According to a news statement issued by Lee. “Thank you to the UMG/UMe team for working so hard to commemorate the song’s anniversary this year. Most importantly, thank you to the fans who continue to listen.”

“The song was released when I was a young adolescent, and knowing that it has resonated with multiple generations and continues to resonate — it is one of the best gifts I have ever received.” Continue to rock, and Merry Christmas!”

Brenda Lee, congratulations! It’s about time you get some credit for your renowned holiday tune.
