If there’s one group of professionals who seem to have an image issue right now it’s cops. It seems that the bad apples among them are ruining it for the rest of them.

I think we can all agree that those officers should be held accountable for their actions but this shouldn’t distract the public from all the good work officers do.

Che’ Atkinson of the Prince George’s County Police Department started talking to a homeless woman, who was hanging out in the lobby, he learned that she had nowhere else to go and her baby had not eaten in two days.

He could have just referred her to a homeless shelter and stepped away but instead he went above and beyond the call of duty.

Cpl Atkinson bought them a meal and put them up in a hotel for the night.“I had the extra money,” he said. “What would it hurt just to put them up for a night to make sure they’re safe?

In Northampton, Massachusetts, police were called after a 53-year-old man found he couldn’t pay for the gas he’d just filled his car up with.

When the officer arrived, instead of arresting him, he paid for his gas.

A similar situation occurred in Michigan when an officer overheard a woman trying to buy gas with $3, all in coins.Gas station owner Seth Kazz said the officer went out to talk to the woman and was told about her struggles following her husband’s death.

After offering to pump the gas for her, he then came back in and paid for it. “Nowadays there’s so much negativity towards police officers,” Seth wrote on Facebook.

“I’m not saying every officer is perfect, (and) I’m sure some are at fault at times. We all make mistakes, but we should all respect, appreciate, and thank them for what they do.”
