Richard Gere turned down “Pretty Woman,” but Julia Roberts used three words to change his mind.

Richard Gere is the only person who could play the prince charming to Julia Roberts’s girl in trouble in Pretty Woman, a modern-day Cinderella story. In the last scene, Gere won everyone’s heart when his character, Edward, gets over his fear of heights and climbs the fire escape to save Roberts’ character, Vivian, who is waiting at the top of her “tower.”

Most people don’t know this, but Charles Grodin was the favorite to play Edward, and it was Roberts who persuaded Gere to play the part in the great movie that he wasn’t sure he wanted to star in.

Some secrets were told when the group of the famous romance comedy Pretty Woman from 1990 got back together in 2015.

The movie, which starred Julia Roberts, who was 21 at the time and had already been in Mystic Pizza and Steel Magnolias, and Richard Gere, who was already a sex icon, was supposed to have a dark plot and was originally called 3000.

The original story was about a prostitute who was hooked to drugs. At the end, she is thrown out of the limousine and lands on the street on her back. Edward then drives off and throws her $3,000 in tips on the ground.

The famous producer and author Garry Marshall then took over as director. Later, Disney bought the movie and turned it into the beloved fairy tale we all know and love today.

Even so, Gere didn’t want to be in the movie and said “no” “a few times.”

“It wasn’t a part; it was nothing.” Gere, who is now 73 years old, said, “It was a suit. You could put a suit on a goat and send it out there and it would work.” “I didn’t understand.”

Marshall was also interested in casting Charles Grodin, who is known for his roles in Midnight Run and The Heartbreak Kid, but he still wanted Gere.

“There was great chemistry between Roberts and Gere,” Marshall said.

Marshall, who won many awards, died in 2016 at the age of 81. He directed great movies like Beaches, Runaway Bride (also with Gere and Roberts), Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve, and Mother’s Day. He also made TV shows like Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, and Laverne & Shirley.

Marshall said, “The actors were so likeable and charming that I didn’t think the audience would want a dark ending. It also helped that I’m from the school of happy endings.”

And stars like Gere and Roberts, who were together in Pretty Woman, made it possible for viewers to feel the joy when the couple found their “happily ever after.”

Marshall says he put them together and left them alone in a room with the hope that their chemistry would lead to them working together on screen.

Marhsall wasn’t there, according to Gere.

Gere said of his meeting with Roberts, 55, “I was so mesmerized that I don’t remember Garry. I only remember the girl.” “I wasn’t sure if I was going to make this movie yet. It’s fun to play with each other as we get to know each other. She walks across the desk, grabs a piece of paper, and starts writing on it. Then she flips it over and serves it to me.”Please answer yes”

Gere said that Marshall was talking to him on the phone at the time to check on their progress.

“Yes, I did!” “It was so sweet!” Gere said.

We can’t picture Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in Pretty Woman! They look so good together in that movie, and their relationship is what makes it classic. Gere also looks great when he goes up that fire escape at the end of the movie and saves Robert’s Vivian! That scene is always funny!

What do you think about Pretty Woman? Is there someone else you think could play Edward?
